Our History

Our history is all about people. During the past decade, a group of visionary business professionals watched mega banks expand into Will County, swallowing up the local banks. They themselves felt a need for the return of a locally-owned and managed bank where people were the priority. They discovered that other business men and women also wanted a bank where employees provide high-touch, intensely personal service.

In late 2002, a formal feasibility study guided by George Barr, Michael Hansen, the late Tom Lambrecht and Steve Morrissette confirmed that the market was ready to welcome an authentic community bank.

In early 2003, a group of investors committed more than $7 million to create First Community Bank of Joliet. The group submitted all necessary federal and state applications, working through the regulatory process. At the same time, the building design was finalized, the internal systems selected, and plans progressed toward launch.

Bank Completes IPO & Opens for Business

In spring of 2004, Organizers invited members of the community to be co-founders of the Bank. Response to the stock offering was overwhelming. More than 600 local men and women-business people and private individuals, offered to invest $26 million in initial capital for the Bank making this the largest new bank stock offering in Illinois history. The Bank was authorized to accept $18 million as its initial capitalization.

The FCFB Family continues to grow

With an overwhelming response from the community, FCFB began to help new banks open in other communities. “Expansion plans have been in the works,” according to Chairman George Barr. “We have been expanding to other communities to help them do the same thing we have done in Joliet, bring local banking back to their community.” The model for success has been working well, setting the stage for our expansion into Joliet, Plainfield, Naperville, Homer Glen, Burr Ridge and Channahon.

In Memoriam

We are proud to salute three of our founding directors who are no longer with us. Their leadership, enthusiasm and love for our community was instrumental in the founding of First Community Bank. They were a big part of our growth and success and we will keep building on their vision.
